The procedure for the return of the Greek naval tankers held in Iran is starting, as announced by the Panhellenic Union of Merchant Marine Sailors (PENEN).
The Greek sailors manning the two tankers under the Greek flag are being held by the Iranian authorities, in retaliation for the case of the cargo of the tanker Lana remaining in Piraeus, as stated in a statement by the PENEN. In fact, in this announcement it is stated that "in a recent visit of the Greek level of the Union to Iran, the Iranian side took a significant step back, accepted and agreed to the replacement of the two crews. This means that the stranded seafarers will immediately return to the countries they came from."
The beginning of the release will begin on Monday, September 12, most likely, with the first Greek being the first Greek, the lieutenant of the Prudent Warrior, who will receive his visa.
On the second ship, Delta Poseidon, where 9 Greeks are present, their replacement will take place within the next few days, so that they can return to Greece. In fact, it became known that one of them does not wish to return, but to remain on board.
A similar procedure will be followed for the non-Greek seafarers, so that they can return to their countries.
Continuing in its announcement, PENEN says that it is not yet known whether the ships will be released, as Iran is asking for guarantees, which does not seem to be clarified in September.
After all, the Iranian tanker Lana, which carries Iranian oil, is anchored in Piraeus, fully manned, with all the necessary maritime equipment.
The Iranian media, as reported by PENEN, have publicized the belief that if the Lana is released from the Greek side and enters international waters, the US will attempt a counterattack to seize it and its cargo, with a willingness to attempt via of violence the embargo of Iranian oil.
