Journalism is known to be a great profession, because it aims to inform the public about everything that is happening in the world.
In the effort to uncover the truth, many journalists have fallen in the line of duty, victims of their reckless courage or their revelations. We must therefore honor those tireless workers of the pen, who gave their lives so that ordinary people would not remain in the dark and in the intrigues of the backstage, who were ready to swallow the empty straw served to them by the world rulers through the "master chefs" of deception, their paid henchmen.
It is a fact that the world-powerful politicians who have money are owners or shareholders in newspapers, radio stations and television channels of enormous scope. Through them, they control a number of politicians, using the journalists who work for them, with large salaries worthy of their services.
But the world lives in ignorance. He is unaware that his will and thought are directed according to the revelation or concealment of elements, which would be decisive in the expression of an opinion.
There are thousands of examples in global journalism, through which public opinion is informed or misinformed about various events. Greece could certainly not be an exception to these. For example, how many newspapers or television channels have talked about Greece's oil and treasures and the possibility of extracting them in recent years? Few to none. Today's "journalists," who most often study at liberal arts centers, present themselves as experts in every field. Expert economists, environmentalists, doctors, historians, etc. And of course bad users of Greek, both due to ignorance and due to a lack of courage to react to the attempt to destroy the language!
There are of course journalists with education, qualifications and ethics! Unfortunately, however, they are the exceptions and it is certain that the system, because it cannot control them, pushes them aside by promoting others! The diamonds today, as a rule, are found in the small channels and small newspapers.
And in previous years there were exceptions. There have been giants of the mind, amazing users of language, who wrote articles in the press. Kostis Palamas, Dimitris Psathas, Nikos Tsiforos, Elias Venezis, Nobel Prize winners Giorgos Seferis and Odysseas Elytis and several others have offered us gems of education and information.
And yet, these were exceptions too! And in previous years there was an abundance of negative journalism, with exactly the same facts, as today, even intellectuals, who pointed them out!
The deceased D. Thereianos in his work on Korais he says the following: «O journalist by the way true or not " good names full of pretenses" A journalist has a major or a professor has a formality, because he teaches a certain number of listeners, he does not teach and enlighten theThe entire Nation, because of this, bears a major responsibility.. Unfortunately, Greek journalism is in decline.the largely paralyzing lever probably or ethicalof knowledge, pseudo-education rather than true enlightenment. Ο The great Cavour said that the people are destined to carry out a major political mandate he must have journalism, strong but weak in mind and ethics, they cheerfully obeyed the commands of discipline and wisdom and disinterestedly they worked for the common good...
On the contrary The Greek journalist is first and foremost a professional various… Education and encyclopedic learning There is no need for anything. The filthy illiterate is gone. The half-educated person can improvise himself as a newspaper writer, writing articles in a trivial language.of fury and doubtful sanity, to judge authentically to give an opinion on any matter about language, to raise fireflies to the telegraphs of the stars of the sky, to generously grant a diploma of wisdom to foolish and half-wise friends, to alternately weave wreaths and loops according to one's own interest. And thus to deceive and flatter himself, out of providence, and the readers out of cunning and malice.
In this school we teachThe people despise indecency, shamelessness, and falsehood.the distortion and distortion of one's own voice and "addicted to all vices, supposedly to a certain degreegive the ancient customs, which were either good or bad and its sacred anchor" (Thereianou, Korais, vol. B, pp. 254—255)"
Indeed, the last paragraph expresses the rule, subject to proportions and exceptions, in Greek journalism. The people are taught indecency, shamelessness, pseudo-education and the distortion of their voice, degrading the ancient customs, which were their good and sacred anchor.The same observation so many years ago!
The eminent ancient philologist George Zikidis in the introduction to his work "Orthographic and Grammatical Dictionary of the Greek Language" (Athens 1941) writes:
"Therefore, journalists must Having many virtues, they teach the people to improve.They teach him through virtuous teachings and by stigmatizing evil and malignity, to master Greek well, to know what is soliloquy and barbaric or popular, and thus they treat each one appropriately. And by making bad use of the Greek language, they become the causes of the corruption of the language. Because, as the Latins say, Usage is normal. of speech (usus norm loquendi)". "The distortion is not of the language, as Korais said and before Korais the Uncle Plato, he is inseparable from the distortion of reason. (Thereianou, Korais, vol. 2, p. 257)".
The conclusions we draw from the analysis of the above historical data are:
- The journalist who serves the truth, and not the one who has the name, is more important than a professor because of his responsibilities, because he teaches not a few, like the professor, but the entire Nation.
- Greek journalism today, as it was then, is for the most part a lever of pseudo-education and not true enlightenment.
- A people with perspective must have strong journalism with a surplus of intelligence and ethics, which works for the common good.
- In Greece, everyone is what they say they are. Every half-educated journalist pretends to be an expert in everything, elevating insignificant fireflies to super-bright stars and granting, in the interests of the sponsor, a diploma of wisdom to the unwise, deceiving the readers.
- The people are moving away from traditional morals, systematically, also through journalists.
- Finally, journalists, in addition to stigmatizing evil and malignity, must also speak Greek correctly. Korais and before him Plato had said that the distortion of language means distortion of logic.
Let the big-headed journalists who overemphasize the prefix hear this. (the late Mertzos calls them journalists) and among other things, to learn Greek correctly, to protect it, not to distort it and to denounce those who systematically use English, Greeks, the "new Hellenistic" idiom, after all, which is used today, promoted by internationalists, even with state cover!
