To those who think that Greece does not matter today, let me say that they could not make a bigger mistake. Today, like old Greece, is of the utmost importance for anyone looking to find himself.

Opinions Divided on Central Florida Reservoir Proposal

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida environmentalists are divided over a proposal to earmark $400 million for a reservoir in central Florida, arguing over the impact it could have on water quality and flow in the St. River. Johns.

The $400 million was inserted into the 2024-2025 budget proposal during the conference committee process, with the support of Senate President Kathleen Passidomo.

Some environmentalists support the project, saying it will help protect the Indian River Lagoon by diverting water that historically never flowed into the troubled body of water. However, representatives of St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Florida Springs Council say the proposed project on former citrus land poses a threat to the St. Johns and should have received more scrutiny

The proposal to build a reservoir in central Florida, at the cost of 400 million dollars, has sparked a heated debate among environmentalists in the area. Some support the project, while others see it as a threat to water quality and flow in the St. Johns.

Proponents of the project believe that building the reservoir will help protect the Indian River Lagoon by moving water that historically has never flowed into the river. This could have a positive impact on the environment and the ecological balance of the area.

On the other hand, some environmental protection groups, such as the St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Florida Springs Council, are concerned about the project's impact on the St. Johns. They argue that building the reservoir on former citrus land poses a threat to the river and that there should have been greater scrutiny and transparency in the preparation of the project.

The proposal is expected to continue to spark debate and division among Florida environmentalists and policymakers as the region faces the challenge of balancing the need for development with the preservation of the natural environment.
