The Narcotics Department of the Organized Crime Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece dismantled a criminal organization whose members were active in the cultivation of cannabis seedlings in Boeotia.
To put an end to their action, a broad police operation was carried out in the morning hours of yesterday, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in areas of Attica, Phthiotis and Viotia, with the assistance of police officers from the Department of Information and Special Actions, as well as the Sub-Directorates of Drug Prosecution, Combating Organized Sports Violence, Prosecution of Economic Crime and Information and Special Actions.
As part of the operation, a total of -8- people were arrested, including -7- members of the organization, against whom a case was filed -as appropriate- for criminal organization, drugs, weapons, as well as the legislation on the entry and residence of third-country nationals in Greek territory.
As emerged from the investigation, following the evaluation and utilization of information and data, and with the implementation of special investigative actions, it was determined that the members had formed and joined a criminal organization, with a specific structure and continuous action, at least since May 2026, with the aim of cultivating cannabis seedlings and further trafficking drugs, in an area of Viotia.
At the same time, the role of each member of the organization also emerged, specifically:
- A 52-year-old, leading member, he led the organization, having full control over its coordination and operational planning. He had the necessary know-how for the cultivation of seedlings, while he ensured the supply of agricultural materials and the necessary equipment. He made all the decisions about the crops and managed any risks. Finally, he had “recruited” the other members of the organization.
- The 45-year-old was the business partner of the 52-year-old, accompanying him during their travels, while we assisted in the procurement of agricultural supplies and the transportation of equipment to the cultivation site.
- The 31-year-old was the "local" supporter, having excellent knowledge of the geography and specifics of the area where the cultivation had been established. He had taken on the task of finding and transporting the necessary equipment, while communicating with both the workers and the 52-year-old, mainly on issues related to the equipment.
- Another 31-year-old, also a “local” supporter of the organization, had taken on the task of transporting the workers to and from the cultivation site in a farm vehicle he owned, via rural routes to avoid detection. At the same time, he participated in finding and transporting the necessary equipment.
- Three members (27, 36 and 48 years old) were in charge of the necessary cultivation activities (agricultural work and supervision of the growth of the seedlings), while they were also responsible for the surveillance and guarding of the area.
In the context of investigations in an area of Boeotia, the cultivation was located, from which a total of -1.420- cannabis seedlings were uprooted and seized, while in a sheepfold in the same area, an additional -83- seedlings were found and seized.
In further searches of homes, as well as physical searches, the following were found and seized:
- -2- weapons,
- -3- magazines,
- -20- cartridges,
- -5.610- euros,
- -3- vehicles and
- -12- mobile phones.
The arrested persons, with the case file filed against them, are taken to the competent prosecution authority.
