The inauguration of the new Amphitheater at the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters, a modern space that substantially upgrades the capabilities of the Greek Police for education, training and organization of official actions in Northern Greece, took place today, Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in the presence of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, and distinguished guests.
The consecration was performed by His Eminence Metropolitan of Naples and Stavroupolis, Mr. Varnavas, who welcomed the renovation of the hall, stating, among other things, "I am glad that today this space is being delivered, which will be for the continuous training of police officers, who have the main responsibility to safeguard the law, dignity, property of people and their own lives. However, the greatest asset is the people of the Greek Police. And I would like to personally congratulate you for the successes that your Services demonstrate against organized crime and make people feel more secure. May God give you strength and courage to continue your work," he concluded.
The General Police Director of Thessaloniki, Major General Georgios Tzimas, thanked the donors for their contribution, as well as all those who worked with consistency and dedication to implement the project. At the same time, he stressed that "the upgrade of the logistical infrastructure is a key pillar for improving operational readiness and optimal internal operation. Today is a practical reflection of the strategic choice of the Corps for a modern, dynamic, extroverted and constantly evolving Police Force, which responds to the complex challenges of our time". He also added that "with the renovation, we now acquire a modern, more functional and hospitable space, worthy of the role and mission of the Greek Police. In this context, I wish the renovated amphitheater of the General Police Headquarters. to be a springboard for the implementation of the goals of the Hellenic Police Force and to host the ideas, high-level training and strategic planning that will guarantee the most valuable asset for our fellow citizens: security and the protection of their rights."
The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, referred to today, which, as he said, is "special for the Thessaloniki police, because we have to talk to the citizens once again. We want to be accountable to the citizens of Thessaloniki, to present our results and we want the police to be transparent, in communication with the citizens, with results, for a professional police force and useful and beneficial for the local community. The police is today a modern service, which provides services to the citizens and you have truly managed to prevail in Thessaloniki, in all the cities of the urban complex, a feeling of security unparalleled that has never existed in the past. And this is a great contribution of yours, thanks to the work that you do, every day, men and women, all Departments and all Services of the police. "Criminal groups are dismantled very quickly, we infiltrate organized crime, murders and offenses are solved very decisively and effectively. With a lot of daily work, we reduce petty crime and become more and more useful to citizens every day, to a city that is safe and functional."
During the ceremony, commemorative plaques were awarded to the donors who contributed to the upgrade of the amphitheater of the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters. The contribution of ALUMIL and personally of the President of the Company Christos Mylonas, of the company THEMA and especially of the Security Director Nikos Miaoulis and the painter Christos Doumparatzis, in combination with the work carried out by the Hellenic Police, made it possible to create a modern space, worthy of the increased operational and educational needs of the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki.
The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia and Thrace Sector), Konstantinos Gkoulekas, the Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki of the New Democracy party, Theofanis Pappas, the Mayor of Ampelokipi-Menemeni, Lazaros Kyrizoglou, the Coordinator of the Prime Minister's Office in Thessaloniki, Yiannis Papageorgiou, and the Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Networks of the Region of Central Macedonia, Paris Bilias.
The Hellenic Police were represented by the General Coordinator of the Police of Northern Greece, Lieutenant General Georgios Papadopoulos, the Director of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Major General Fotios Ntuitsis, the General Regional Police Director of Central Macedonia, Brigadier General Fani Giouvannopoulou, the Directors of the Directorates for Combating Special Violent Crimes, Thessaloniki Police, Crime Prosecution and Investigation, Direct Action, Police Operations, Aliens, Traffic Police and the Directors of the Sub-Directorates for Combating Organized Crime of Northern Greece, Combating Special Violent Crimes of Northern Greece and State Security of the General Directorate of the Interior, Cases and Criminal Investigations, other Senior Officers and Executives of the Hellenic Police.
The new amphitheater is a key venue for official meetings, training, seminars and outreach activities of the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki. Its modernization, combined with its equipment with modern technological means, is expected to significantly enhance the training capabilities of personnel, operational coordination and the implementation of actions for the benefit of citizen safety.
