Although excavations at the city of Aizane in Western Anatolia, an ancient Greek city, have begun since 1970, finds keep coming to light, revealing a long and important history. Recently discovered Greek statues of Hercules, Dionysus and Eros.

The city of Aizanes dates back to 3.000 BC, and was the main settlement of citizens living in Phrygia. The area passed to Rome in 133 BC. while previously it had fallen into the kingdoms of Pergamum and Bithynia. It was known for its magnificent buildings.
