There are times when a video doesn't need much explanation. It forces you to stand up to what's happening around you and ask yourself: What kind of country do we ultimately want to be and what do we demand from those who choose to live in it?
In the video we present, according to our journalist's information, the President of Egypt appears particularly angry with a young Egyptian who insults Greece and Greeks. His reaction is intense and clear, going so far as to demand his deportation.
And here mine begins I blame a lot..
Not against a people. Not against Egyptians, Albanians, Pakistanis, Afghans or any other ethnicity. People are judged by their actions and not by their origins. My accusation is directed against all those, Greeks and foreigners, who demand rights, security, and opportunities from a country, but forget that they also have obligations towards that country.
And I'll say it once again, as I've been saying for years:
In difficult times, Greece will not be protected by its passport. It will be protected by those who feel it is their homeland.
People who came ten, twenty or more years ago, worked, raised children, created businesses, bought houses and built their future here. For many of them, Greece is no longer a foreign country. It is their home.
And when someone has created their life in a place, when their children, their property, their friends, and their future are there, then they have every reason to want that place to be free, safe, and upright.
This is home for me.
Not just the place where you were born, but also the place you chose to love, create, and defend.
And that's why the image of the Egyptian President himself getting angry when one of his compatriots insults Greece is particularly significant.
Because respect has no nationality.
Dignity has no passport.
And love for a country is demonstrated by actions.
Greece doesn't need people who simply reside within its borders. It needs people who respect it.
This is my big complaint.
And at the same time my great hope.
