Daily Order of the Chief of the Greek Police Lieutenant General Lazarus Mavropoulos, for the National Anniversary of October 28, 1940
October 28 is a milestone in the history of the Greek Nation and remains in our national collective memory as a living and integral part. It is a day of pride and honor for the incomparable courage and heroism shown by the Greek fighters. This great celebration is not a formal obligation that is answered through specific dates and facts, but a landmark of historical events which sealed with indelible glory the historical course of our Nation.
The "NO" of the Greeks, as a point of reference in our modern history, dynamized the whole world and proved once again that the resistance of the free Greek state to any form of conquest and deprivation of freedom is strong, unified and non-negotiable.
The sacrifice of the Greek fighters of the 40s, a symbol of indomitable will and a constant struggle for those who want to live with freedom, simply motivates us:
- To we reflect the lessons of the time, the national ideals of timeless scope as well as our debt to the bloody history forging national unity and like-mindedness.
- To we are taught from the steel will and stubbornness of our ancestors, the adherence to values and ideals, the magnanimity, the honor and the conscious importance of the terms of patriotism and self-sacrifice.
- To we do our duty unceasingly, as a moral obligation; to those we honor today, with a sense of responsibility and with a view to shielding the national interest.
Today's global challenges and special conditions require like-mindedness, vigilance and constant readiness, in order for the response of the Greek Police to be adequate and effective.
Therefore, today's anniversary should primarily be a day of reflection, awakening and collective national effort, especially for all of us whose mission is to protect the lives and legitimate assets of citizens.
Happy Birthday to everyone!
