Konstantinos Spyropoulos
Konstantinos Spyropoulos is Emeritus Professor of Pulmonology at the University of Patras, Greece. Professor at the School of Fine Arts, University of Ioannina, Honorary Doctor at the University of Nicosia in the Department of Art and Design, Full Member of the Accademia Tiberina in Rome in the Department of Letters and Arts. Since the 2000s, he has been a prominent figure in the pop art movement in Greece. Professor and painter Konstantinos Spyropoulos was born and raised in Patras. From his childhood, he admired the great painters and scientists, because their common characteristic is the constant effort to elevate the soul and spirit, as they constantly seek to decipher the world. In these early artistic steps, he studied the works of the great masters of art, Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, while at the same time becoming acquainted with Byzantine art through the creation of frescoes in churches in the city of Patras. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens and completed his training in the specialty of Pulmonology at Sotiria Hospital. He completed his doctoral thesis at the Department of Medicine of the University of Athens. He then worked in the Pulmonology Department of Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana, USA, where he also served as a Visiting Professor. He also continued his training at Brompton and the London Chest Hospital in London. In 1990 he was elected Assistant Professor of Pulmonology at the University of Patras and since 2005 he has been Professor of Pulmonology and Director of the Pulmonology Department. He is a member of the Hellenic Pulmonary Society and the European Respiratory Society (ERS). In parallel with his studies in science, he traveled to the USA and Europe for several years where he studied Art (Heron Art Institute, USA) and exhibits his work in galleries, international Artfairs and Biennales in various countries in Europe and North America. For eight years, he taught, as an Associate Professor, the course of Visual Anatomy at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Ioannina and wrote a relevant book which was published by the University. The book "Solutions and Analyses" was published in 2016 by the Katsigra Museum in Larissa and the most recent "Adventure of Art" by P.H. Publications. Paschalidis in 2024. He has presented solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, in Italy (Florence, Piacenza, Verona, Brindisi, Asolo, Palermo, San Marino), in Austria (Innsbruck), in Bulgaria (Sofia), in the USA (Los Angeles), in France (Paris, Louvre Museum [, in Turkey (Istanbul), in Canada (Vancouver), in Belgium (Brussels), in the Czech Republic (Prague, Pilsen), in Azerbaijan (Kambala), in Serbia. At the same time, he participated in international Artfairs in Turkey (Istanbul 2005, 2009), Czech Republic (Prague 2005), Austria (Innsburg 2009), Greece (Athens 2010), Italy (Florence 2006, Verona 2013, Piacenza 2016), Azerbaijan (Kambala 2015), France (Paris, Louvre Museum 2016), Canada (Vancouver 2016) and International Biennales: Czech Republic (Pilsen 2006, 2008), Italy (Azolo 2010, Palermo 2013), China (Beijing 2017). His work has been mentioned by important Greek and foreign painters and art historians, such as Alekos Fasianos, Gabriella Hajkova (Art Historian, Director of the Pilsen International Design Biennale), and Chrysanthos Christou (Academician and Professor of Art History). His works are in museums in Greece and abroad, such as the National Gallery, the Theocharakis Foundation, the Archaeological Museums of Thessaloniki and Patras, the Museum of the City of Athens, the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, the Florence City Hall and elsewhere. Two of his large structures adorn the grounds of the rectory and the main street of the University of Patras Campus. Costas Spyropoulos is a member of the Greek Chamber of Fine Arts and Professor of Pulmonology at the Department of Medicine at the University of Patras. Furthermore, it was selected by the Italian Academy of Fine Arts and included in the Rembrandt 2016 edition, which was created to mark the 410th anniversary of the birth of Rembrandt (1606–2016) as one of the important representatives of international contemporary art.
