The start of the application process for admission to the Postgraduate Studies Program (PSP) is announced "Legal Theory and Interdisciplinary Legal Studies" of the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for the academic year 2026–2027The website of the Postgraduate Program is as follows: https://theory.law.auth.gr/ .
This is a postgraduate program that focuses on the theoretical foundation of law, i.e. the foundations of legal science, and the interdisciplinary approach to contemporary legal issues, i.e. the interdisciplinarity of law with other sciences. Its aim is to cultivate scientific research, critical thinking and the ability to synthesize different scientific approaches, offering postgraduate students a comprehensive understanding of the interdisciplinarity of legal science with other sciences.
The program is developed around five main scientific axes: History of Law, The Philosophy and Methodology of Law, The Sociology of Law, the Law of Religion and Worldview, and the Law and InformaticsAt the same time, it is enriched with Seminars Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Democracy, and Legal Thought, which connect legal science with modern social and technological developments at an international level.
As reflected in the new poster of the Program, its philosophy is based on the synthesis of the individual branches of legal science and the cultivation of a comprehensive theory of law, which connects history, philosophy, society, religion and technology in a single framework of study.
The duration of the studies is three academic semesters (90 ECTS). The first two include courses, while the third is dedicated to the preparation of a postgraduate thesis. Teaching is carried out in a hybrid manner: students residing in Thessaloniki attend in person, while those residing outside Thessaloniki can participate remotely via the Zoom platform.
The entrance exams will be held on Thursday 10 September 2026 in the lessons History of Law and Law and Informatics, which were selected by lottery, in accordance with the Program Regulations. The Announcement notes that the exams are intended to assess the critical thinking and not the memorization of knowledge.
Graduates of Law Schools, as well as graduates of related scientific fields, such as social, theological, philological, historical, philosophical, political, economic and humanities sciences, are eligible to participate.
The deadline for submitting applications is on September 7, 2026, while all necessary information regarding the supporting documents, the exam syllabus, the application submission and the selection process are included in the official Program Announcement.
The Postgraduate Program "Legal Theory and Interdisciplinary Legal Studies" seeks to contribute to the substantial cultivation of legal science in dialogue with other sciences, combining theoretical deepening with an interdisciplinary approach and scientific research, in an environment that meets modern academic requirements internationally.
