During their conversation, the two leaders exchanged views on the great history of their two nations and recalled their shared sacrifices in World War II, when Russia and the United States fought successfully together, with Russia losing tens of millions of people and the United States also suffering serious losses.
Trump noted that, despite their differences, they had agreed to work together more closely in the future and to take action to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which has claimed millions of lives. President Putin even used Trump's campaign slogan, "COMMON SENSE," which he said underscored their shared commitment to a peaceful resolution.
"We want to stop the millions of deaths that are happening in the war with Russia/Ukraine," Trump said, adding that their goal is to eliminate the loss of life and achieve a peaceful resolution. The two leaders agreed to move forward with negotiations immediately, with their teams taking action.
The President said he has asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to lead the negotiations. He said he has full confidence that the negotiations will be successful.
Trump, referring to the tragedy of the war, stressed that millions of people have lost their lives in a war that would not have been started if he were President, but now must be ended so that no more lives are lost. He expressed his gratitude to President Putin for the effort and time he dedicated to this conversation, while thanking the Russian President for the recent release of American citizen, Marc Fogel.
Trump concluded by saying that he hopes this cooperation will lead to a successful outcome and that the process will move forward soon with positive results.
