Panos Sombolos
Panos Sombolos was born in Astakos, Aitoloakarnania (Karaiskakis Municipal District). He studied journalism and works as a journalist in the field of police reporting. He worked for the newspapers "Akropolis", "Athinaiki", "Makedonia" (Athens offices) and for the magazines "Eikones", "Pantheo", "Romantzo" etc. He also worked at the Athens News Agency, covering court reporting for eleven years. For 26 years he worked at ERT (YENED, ERT2, NET) television and radio in the news sector and in shows. He was the creator and presenter of the show "Eyewitness Witness" on MEGA, which had the highest viewership of all the channel's shows. Today he works at the newspaper "Ethnos" and at the television station MEGA as head of the police report. He has covered almost all the major events that have shaken the country in the last 33 years, such as earthquakes, air tragedies, major fires, murders, terrorist acts, hijackings and all the high-profile cases of current affairs. He has also covered major events abroad such as the bombing of a plane in Malta with many victims, the attack on a bus with tourists in Cairo as well as Istanbul, the uprising in Albania with the bank robbers, the deadly earthquakes in the depths of Turkey and many others. He has developed extensive trade union activity as he served as a member of the Board of Directors, vice-president and president of ESIEA, while he was recently elected a member of the Board of Directors of the Panhellenic Federation of Writers' Unions (POESY). Today he is president of ESIEA. He has two children, Anthoula, who is a lawyer, and Giorgos, who is a journalist.
