October 1 2021 - On the occasion of World day of the senior - citizens, This makes it a perfect choice for people with diabetes and for those who want to lose weight or follow a balanced diet. Prolepsis Institute invites people to get to know the program Friendship at any age and get closer to our elderly fellow human beings who experience loneliness. The program is a comprehensive initiative that works in support of the particularly vulnerable social group of older people and is based on volunteering.
The elderly have been severely affected in the last two years due to the pandemic. Their social interactions have been limited and the feeling of loneliness / social isolation has intensified. In addition, according to the World Health Organization, the pandemic has worsened their mental health, degraded the care and support they receive, and reduced their social role.
Responding to the need for support and social activation of the elderly, the Prolepsis Institute implements the program Friendship at any age in collaboration with the international organization "Petits Frères des Pauvres" and the Founding Donor is the TIMA Public Benefit Foundation. The goals of the program are to combat loneliness / social isolation and marginalization of people aged 65 and over, through human contact and the establishment of long-term friendships and social ties, as well as highlighting the needs of the elderly.
To date, the program has connected a three-digit number of seniors with volunteers who, through regular phone calls, keep lonely elderly people company, strengthen them mentally and emotionally, and build friendships. At the same time, within the framework of the program, there is a Telephone Line for Loneliness in the Elderly - 2106101300. People over the age of 65 who experience loneliness / social isolation, as well as caregivers, relatives or friends of these people can call the line to receive human communication in a safe environment. When required, they are informed about the competent social services. The line operates daily Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. All calls are anonymous and the charge is local.

Information on World Elderly Day 2021
This year's World Elderly Day is dedicated by the UN to equal access to the digital world for all ages Digital Equity for All Ages.
For seniors, the need for communication and the use of technology, as well as for better and secure access to electronic information and health services, is even greater, especially in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the development of digital skills and access to technological equipment, as well as the internet could significantly help enhance the socialization of older people. Research shows that older people, especially those who experience loneliness, express a desire to be educated in the use of electronic devices and the Internet. Indicatively, 55% of the beneficiaries of the program Friendship at any age stated that he wishes to attend relevant courses.
The Prolepsis Institute has many years of experience, having implemented European programs on issues related to improving digital literacy and older people's access to online health services. In particular, the European program has recently been completed iHeal for better access and understanding of digital information related to health issues of the elderly. In addition, the Institute is currently participating in the European program here, which aims to create educational tools to increase the digital literacy of vulnerable groups, including the elderly.
