On the sidelines of the European Parliament plenary session taking place in Strasbourg, MEP Costas Mavridis (DIKO and S&D) had a meeting with the Head of European Affairs of the "International Organization of Oil and Gas Producers" (IOGP), Mr. François-Régis Mouton.
The discussion focused on the energy importance of the Eastern Mediterranean and on the ongoing projects and plans of Cyprus in cooperation with other states in the region, both within the EU and outside, such as Egypt and Israel. The discussion highlighted the urgent need to exploit the Mediterranean as an energy supplier and the role that the region can play for the European Union in the coming years and in the long term.
Finally, it was agreed that the Cypriot MEP will host in Cyprus next October 2025, a conference of the "International Organization of Petroleum and Natural Gas Companies", in which, among others, the European Presidency and member companies of the Organization as well as representatives of interested countries and other organizations in the sector will participate, in view of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the European Council.
