An extended meeting, led by the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos, was held today (January 14, 2023) at noon in the P. Bakoyannis Hall of the Ministry, regarding the order, security and traffic measures that will be taken due to the funeral of the late King Constantine.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Eleftherios Oikonomou, the General Secretary of Public Order, Michael Karamalakis, the Chief of the Greek Police, Lieutenant General Konstantinos Skoumas and officers from the Services involved in the planning and implementation of the measures.
In this context and taking into account the importance of the event as well as the international interest and the impact on the image of the country, the appropriate instructions and directions were given while the number of police forces and means to be deployed was finalized, in order to ensure the smooth conduct of the ritual.
In more detail, the police forces will be present at key points, focusing on the places where the ceremony will take place in the Metropolis of Athens and in Tatoi, as well as along the route of the procession and in the residences of the officials, while cooperation will be developed with the representatives of the Region of Attica and the Ministry of Culture.
Mr. Minister, with his intervention in the meeting, requested that there should be an impeccable image of the policemen in all respects and that they respond to the importance of the event. He gave particular importance to the preservation of order and security at all stages of the ceremony and that there should be a total vigilance of the police forces for the next three days.
The development and management of the police forces will be carried out by the competent Services on a case-by-case basis, while the supervision of the measures was assigned to the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic Police.
