Tonight, Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 8:00 PM, at the Stathakio Cultural Center, we gather for a moment of rare significance — the world premiere of the play Hymn–Paianas, a creation of "Maestro", written especially for the Greek Independence Parade in New York 2026, and his offering to the Greek Diaspora and Greece.
As President of the Parade Committee, I am honored to invite you to this important cultural event. This original composition does not just honor history — it gives it a voice.
The evening begins with our weekly program:
6:30 p.m. – Historical presentation by Dr. Peter Stavrianides,
"The Greek Revolution as a national and spiritual resurrection of Hellenism"
7:00 p.m. – Public meeting for the Greek Independence Parade 2026
8:00 PM – World Premiere
Composed by Maestro Spyros Kardami, with poetry by Rania Angelakoudi, the Hymn–Paianas brings together an exceptional ensemble: lead vocals from Olympia, virtuosity on the clarinet from Lefteris Bournias, the Cathedral Choir, with the participation of Nikos Kouroupakis, under the direction of choirmaster Kostas Tsourakis.

Inspired by the spirit of the ancient paean, a sacred song of victory and reverence, this work emerges as a powerful musical imprint of the timeless bond between Greece and the United States. It serves as a bridge across the centuries, uniting two great revolutions through their shared dedication to freedom, political virtue, and the dignity of man.
From the luminous legacy of Greece, where the first language of democracy and philosophy was born, to the creation of the American Republic, where these ideals found new life, this composition captures a historical continuity that lives and breathes through the Greek-American experience.
Created to commemorate this special year — the 205th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence — the Hymn–Paianas It is both a tribute and a declaration: that across time and across borders, the call of freedom is one and the same.
This is not just a performance. It is a premiere of meaning, a cultural milestone in a unique year.
In the tradition of the ancient ode, it honors the noble struggle, elevates collective memory, and affirms a living legacy: freedom, identity, and the enduring responsibility to carry them into the future.
We invite you to experience this unique first presentation.
Entrance is free for everyone.
