The Greek Community of Melbourne (ECM) is pleased to announce the full program of 30th Greek Film Festival, which will be conducted by the 14 to 26 October 2025Marking three decades of celebration, this year's festival presents new contemporary films and looks back at some of the most distinctive films from the festival's 30 years.
As with every festival, the 2025 program highlights new Greek movies, offering Melbourne audiences a taste of contemporary Greek cinematic storytelling. A powerful collection documentary complements the new releases.
This year's Festival also pays tribute to the acclaimed Greek actor, screenwriter and director Reno Charalambide, whose distinctive performances and charismatic presence on screen have made him one of the most recognizable and respected personalities of modern Greek cinema.
The festival will also present a selection of the best films from its 30-year history. This dedicated retrospective offers viewers the rare opportunity to re-watch or discover for the first time iconic Greek films from 3 decades of cinematic storytelling, which contributed to the description of the evolving Greek history through many generations and an ever-changing social landscape.
The vice president of the Hellenic Film Festival and chairman of the Greek Film Festival committee, Mr. Leonidas Vlachakis, expressed his enthusiasm:

The 30th anniversary season will open with the powerful historical drama "Captain Michael", directed by Kostas Charalambous and based on the beloved novel by Nikos Kazantzakis.

ABOUT THE GREEK FILM FESTIVAL
The Greek Film Festival was created by cinephiles in Melbourne and Sydney, with the aim of showcasing the rapidly growing Greek film industry. In 2025, the Festival celebrates its 30th season.
Screenings take place at the Palace cinema network, while corresponding festivals are organized by the Greek Communities of Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra.
