{On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion}
It is nightmarishly inconceivable, 50 anniversaries of the Cyprus Tragedy have passed and yet a large part of the Republic of Cyprus remains under illegal Turkish occupation in violation of dozens of resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, as well as the EU, International Law and the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And the general apathy leads to a "funeral". Why are political and religious leaderships and so many NGOs, etc. cynically indifferent? Do they forget the genocides, the rapes, the use of banned Napalm bombs, the hundreds of missing people (not even sheep or cats, which are of greater interest) during the invasion?
And the Hellenism of the Diaspora, although it struggles, some are trying to divide it or disorient it and thus it lacks an effective strategy unlike smaller countries (Israel) that influence the Powerful to satisfy their demands. Steps to the UN, EU and NATO non-existent?
How is it justified to repeat Conferences under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General simply to repeat them for disorientation and to put ashes in the eyes, etc., equating Perpetrator and Victim? Shouldn't the Secretary-General himself, but also the victim states, Greece and Cyprus, demand the most simple, reasonable and logical thing, the implementation of UN resolutions, which Turkey cynically ignores?
The same is happening with the bilateral talks between Greece and Turkey, but without any result. And Turkey, with the guilty tolerance of the Great Powers, is ruthlessly implementing its neo-imperialist, neo-colonialist policy, writing UN resolutions on its old shoes, and ignoring the International Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) on the Continental Shelf, EEZ. And it interprets Greece's policy of compromise - it benefits from it - as submission, as servility.
He wants the illegal invasion, the missing persons, the illegal settlement of Cyprus by Turks to be forgotten. How is the audacity to demand from the UN to recognize the Turkish pseudo-state and to dismember the Republic of Cyprus and so many other illegalities that the elected Cypriot MEP K. Mavridis analyzes so aptly in his interventions in the EU as well as in his articles to be interpreted?
Finally, have we not realized and should we wake up that within the framework of the infamous Divide and Conquer (Divide et Impera) and the politically and socially fragile image of the Balkans, the well-known Powder Kegg, some corrupt warmongering circles will attempt to create opportunities for military conflict? Will Turkey and Germany attempt a new LEBENSRAUM (living space). Will they, in addition to the tragic dismemberment of the former Yugoslavia, want to proceed with the "fall" of other weak states in the region? Therefore, a timely and effective strategy of containment but at the same time of claiming our just national rights is needed. However, when former arch-terrorists, collaborators of Turkey, rewarded with millions of dollars, become heads of state and are "carried away" by powerful "democratic" leaders, then there is a serious upheaval in international relations, which portends a new Armageddon if there is no effective resistance strategy.
