G. Patoulis: The prospects for Greece and Cyprus are enormous in an organized system of Medical Tourism
It was held with particular success in Paphos, Cyprus This makes it a perfect choice for people with diabetes and for those who want to lose weight or follow a balanced diet. 13th International Conference on Recent Developments in Health and Medical Sciences, which brought together a number of distinguished academics, researchers, health professionals and institutional representatives from Cyprus and many countries abroad. The two-day conference served as a point of reference for scientific dialogue and knowledge exchange on the latest developments in the field of health and medical research.
Among the invited speakers were: President of the Athens Medical Association and the Greek Health Tourism Council – Elitour, Dr. George Patoulis, who participated with a speech dedicated to the strategic role of Medical Tourism as a lever for the development of the Greek economy and healthcare extroversion.
During his speech, Mr. Patoulis highlighted Medical Tourism as a rapidly growing industry internationally, which combines two of our country's most important advantages: the high quality of medical services and the globally recognized Greek hospitalityAs he pointed out, Greece, despite the fact that it currently holds a small percentage of the global health and wellness tourism market, has all the guarantees, infrastructure and human resources to emerge as a model country on the global map of Medical Tourism.
The President of ELITOUR emphasized that public-private sector cooperation, the promotion of regional health centers, as well as the certification of services and medical infrastructure, are crucial factors for the sustainable development of the sector. At the same time, he referred to the initiatives of ELITOUR and the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians, to promote Greece as an international health destination, through strategic synergies with tourism bodies, university institutions and organizations abroad. Mr. Patoulis also emphasized that attracting patients and visitors from abroad for medical, diagnostic or wellness and longevity services can act as a growth multiplier, strengthening the local economy, creating new jobs and upgrading the overall image of the country as a destination that combines scientific excellence and quality care.
Within the framework of the conference, special emphasis was also placed on the major issue of demographic problem, which is one of the most critical factors for the sustainable development of Southern European societies. The need for policies to support fertility and the family, as well as for enhancing access to reproductive health services, was emphasized.
Particular reference was made to the strategic cooperation between the Hellenic Society of Reproductive Medicine and the corresponding Cypriot Society, which is under the supervision and coordination of the National Inter-Municipal Network of Healthy Cities (EDDYPPY). This initiative constitutes a model example of cross-border cooperation in the field of reproductive health, with the aim of exchanging scientific knowledge, experience and best practices between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the conference, interest was expressed and a discussion took place regarding the twinning of Athens Medical Association with the historian Paphos Medical Association, with the aim of bridging joint actions and addressing issues of mutual interest.
The conference concluded with important conclusions for the future of health sciences, highlighting the need for international cooperation, innovation and exchange of know-how. The presence of the President of ISA and ELITOUR, Giorgos Patoulis, confirmed the active role of Greece in the international scientific community and the continuous effort to develop and promote the health diplomacy of our country. The Vice President of ELITOUR and Secretary General of the Hellenic Society of Reproductive Medicine gave important speeches. Dr. Konstantinos Pantos and the Secretary General of the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians Dr. Antonios Polydorou, the lawyer Evangelia Sfakianoudi, the Professor Ioannis Kontogeorgis, the president of the Paphos Medical Association, Mr. Christos Georgiades and the Reproductive Medicine Specialist, Dr. Krinos Trokoudis.
