The president of the Federation of Greek Elderly Associations, Yiannis Kostoulias, and the president of the Federation of Greek Women, Sofia Mastori, invited expatriates to participate in a big excursion ahead of May Day. Many expats responded and joined state Labor Senator Lee Tarlamish at Cardinia Park.
As the latter stated: “It was a beautiful day at Cardinia Park for May Day... I joined around 1.000 young at heart seniors and their families in a delightful afternoon of music, dancing, laughter, smiles and communal eating. It was great to see people connecting with old friends and making new ones. I even got a refreshing frappe and delicious homemade spinach pie. It was wonderful to see so many happy people meeting together and enjoying each other's company.
Congratulations to everyone involved in organizing this event that brought so many expats together."
It was an organization of the Federation of Greek Associations of the Elderly in Melbourne and Victoria, the Hellenic Women's Federation of Victoria, who in this way celebrated Labor Day in the most Greek way.
As recommended by Greek custom, participants gathered flowers to make Mayan wreaths and had a picnic.
