It is curious, but at the same time sad, that decades now and despite dozens of UN resolutions, the International Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), International Law, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Turkey , a member of the UN and NATO (fortunately not the EU), carelessly violates and cynically insults the above institutions, defiantly continuing its neo-imperialist policy (LEBENSRAUM) causing serious problems in Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, even though the latter two have shown a spirit of goodwill for the normalization of their relations, which the former ignores.
Of course, there is the opinion that it is good to have your enemy close to you in order to ascertain his intentions, but this also applies to the enemy himself. Who predicts correctly shows in the result! And the result so far is in favor of the neighbor!
Certainly, it is to the credit of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus that they continue contacts and dialogue with Turkey, but when the dialogue is not sincere and constructive and leads to dead ends due to the fact that the latter does not respect the aforementioned institutions and perpetuates the its illegal acts (agreement with Libya, statements to the UN for recognition of the pseudo-state, episode in Samos etc. violations), then the dialogue, compliments, bows, hugs and who benefit? On the contrary, they obscure the image and harm Greece and the Republic of Cyprus also from the point of view of creating the impression internationally (UN, EU, NATO) that Greece and the Republic of Cyprus have "made it up with Turkey", that the former are compromising, retreating accepting what has been done and, therefore, why not continue to arm Turkey, strengthen it financially, etc. And, of course, some bellicose groups are celebrating - they don't want to - because they know that the conflicts may continue in the future where they will properly invest their profit ambitions.
And the naive argument of some that there are no longer any violations by Turkey of the Greek national air and sea space, and therefore Greece does not spend millions on their protection, this is more true for Turkey which is facing serious economic issues etc. problems.
Unfortunately, some are under the illusion that if there is a conflict between Greece and Turkey, the controversial NATO itself will be at risk. They are probably wrong especially with the new leadership in the US, which is supposed to try to find a way out of the vicious circle, and even find the myth of Ariadne to discover the bloodthirsty Cyclops, unless the vicious circle and the Cyclops are her own invention.
In addition to the Turkish threat as such, there is also the wider threat of the behind-the-scenes cooperation-conspiracy of Turkey, Albania, Skopje, culminating in the – logically inconceivable – appointment of of the minister of Skopje as NATO Deputy Secretary General, which, according to press reports, was the result of a German and American finger! Return and perpetuation of the infamous Quislin and imposition of the homicidal and destructive "Divide et impera" in the Balkans (the well-known powder keg)?
Regarding the Cyprus issue, but also wherever it applies, what Greek and Cypriot leaders should do is to study important texts about the Cyprus issue in the ELISME PROBLEMS Magazine, the book by Mr. N. Argyropoulou et al., and to implement the recent ground-breaking and important proposals of the distinguished Ambassador e.t. K. Leonida Chrysanthopoulou, in the context of a preventive defensive counterattack by Greece and the Republic of Cyprus. Also, the recent interview of Prime Minister, and the resignation of the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should seriously concern everyone!
Finally, Greece and the Republic of Cyprus should send, as a dramatic message to the powerful "allies", the famous verse of the great American-Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran: "As the leaf of a tree does not wither by itself, but with the tacit knowledge of the whole tree , so the offender cannot commit an illegality without the secret knowledge of all of you." And the "all of you» is particularly important because it is addressed to the Powerful!
