While ... "the world is burning" literally, comic-tragic scenes are unfolding in the Greek Parliament with the MPs of the Spartan party slaughtering each other.
Is the choice of the name of this party symbolic? They certainly do not attempt victory against the Athenians, as in the past in the war between them, the deepest reason for which, from a political point of view, was the ideological and state difference between democratic Athens and oligarchic Sparta, with a disastrous result for the whole of Greece, as and significant collapse of moral values in human relations But, also in modern Greece, the imprisoned Spartan "threatens" Athens with his candidacy! Characteristically, KYR with his inexhaustible sense of humor comments: the Spartans have abandoned their leader and are taking orders from ...Xerxis. No one, from the beginning, doubted that Il. Kasidiaris was the leader of the Spartans and V. Stigas was... temporary, however, the parties in Greece are leaders and V. Stigas plays his role. He claims that the battle for the control of the party by "rebels" with the unseen protagonist Il. Kasidiaris has not only a political dimension but also an economic one, due to the claim of the Spartans' generous state funding. He talks about extortion by the Greek Mafia using Don Corleone methods, and even puts a legal dimension to the matter, declaring at the same time that for him the parliamentary compensation is more than enough... At the same time, his deputies accuse the leader of similar actions and leave... and the number of the few deputies has serious consequences for the party. Complete confusion!
I had pointed out in my previous article that the lack of a competent democratic opposition and the parallel rise of fascist formations, in a society that is troubled every day, carries risks. Greece even lags behind other European countries, where similar factions are represented by figures such as Le Pen and Meloni.
The Parliament is weak, it observes the disputes and the citizen wonders if not even the Constitution can protect it. The Speaker of the Parliament K. Tasoulas pointed out that the prescribed end of K.O. of the Spartans also has institutional dimensions, and Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis noted that there are parliamentary implications for everything that was heard in Parliament. However, postponing decision-making and tolerance will lead to an impasse. It doesn't make sense for them to know the danger and not care, just like what happened with the predictions of the danger of the recent catastrophic fires. It is unthinkable that a democratic state cannot stop this unprecedented development. How long will the prisoner threaten democracy? In the end he will lose his patience... and who saves them!
Our politicians are well aware that in the Republic there are no dead ends. Who does the delay serve? Let them finally move on!
