Today, the Trump administration convened top government officials from around the world to launch an unprecedented global operation against the transnational threat of radical leftist terrorism.
Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, far-left extremism will be addressed with the same seriousness and determination that the international community has reserved for years for jihadist terrorism.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio denounced the long-standing and deliberate failure to recognize the violence emanating from the Left:
"Our counterterrorism doctrine had a blind spot when it came to extremist violence from the political Left. Even today, the very idea that far-left terrorism could pose a serious threat is treated as a paranoid theory of the Right."
Secretary Rubio warned that left-wing terrorism has increased to levels not seen in decades:
"Today we are faced with a new wave of this old evil. Here in the United States, the rate of terrorist attacks and plots linked to the Left has reached levels not seen in decades. Americans have already seen what these numbers mean in practice."
Marco Rubio also referred to the transnational nature of the threat:
“Antifa militants and their associates travel from various countries in Europe to America and vice versa, to participate in each other’s attacks. They circulate propaganda and educational materials, equipment, and information about potential targets through shared, encrypted communication channels.
They operate through underground networks of safe houses and finance and sustain their businesses through transnational financial mechanisms."
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced the use of powerful tools to combat illicit finance:
"At the direction of President Trump, the Treasury Department is expanding its efforts to identify organizations that abuse charitable and non-profit structures by using them as vehicles for illicit financing.
"We are looking into cases where the tax exemption regime was abused, as well as cases where charities were turned into financial conduits for foreign influence."
Scott Bessant pledged that the government would dismantle the economic infrastructure that, according to the statement, supports left-wing terrorism:
"We will identify illicit financing, no matter how skillfully it is concealed. We will dismantle the networks that sustain political terrorism, no matter how respectable their facade appears."
We will pursue those who facilitate political violence, no matter how far away their jurisdictions are."
Homeland Security Advisor Steven Miller made it clear that, according to the administration, there should be no retreat:
"One of the characteristics of left-wing violence and terrorism is the completely pretentious and insincere invocation of political freedoms, in order to protect its own violence.
When the leftist—who doesn't believe in freedom, doesn't believe in political rights, and doesn't believe in any ordinary concept of justice—complains that we are violating his rights, you must understand that he is lying.
He is trying to convince people who do not closely follow political reality that some injustice has been committed against him.
We must remain steadfast in our course and seek, without any hesitation, the delivery of justice against these enemies of civilization."
Steven Miller referred to the actions the Trump administration has already taken:
"Here in the United States, we have taken the necessary and substantive action, officially recognizing left-wing violence as a form of political terrorism, which poses a direct threat to our national security and to the survival of our democratic, republican form of government."
This is an ongoing campaign aimed at eradicating a violent ideology, which, according to the government, targets police officers, citizens and the very foundations of free societies.
Last year, President Trump designated Antifa a domestic terrorist organization and began a sustained campaign to dismantle left-wing terrorism and bring those responsible to justice.
Their funding is now being cut off, while international partners are coordinating to shut down their safe havens, propaganda channels, and cross-border operations.
Under President Trump, Radical Left terrorism is being treated, for the first time, for what the administration says it truly is: an organized and transnational threat.
