The tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Ilioupoli, when two 17-year-old girls were found in the void from the roof of an apartment building on Eleftheriou Venizelou Avenue, has caused shock and deep sadness in Athens. One of the two minors lost her life, while the second is fighting for her life at the Asklepieion in Voula.
According to initial information, the incident occurred shortly after 12:00 noon. Neighbors heard a loud noise and a few seconds later saw the two girls on the ground, seriously injured. Emergency medical services and a strong police force immediately arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area.
Authorities are examining all possible scenarios, without ruling out any possibility so far. According to information from ERT and other Greek media, the two minors allegedly climbed onto the roof of the apartment building, locked the door and then found themselves in the void under circumstances that remain unclear.
One 17-year-old was taken unconscious and was pronounced dead a short time later. The second was taken in extremely critical condition to the Asklepieion Hospital in Voula, where doctors continue their efforts to keep her alive.
Local accounts describe scenes of panic and shock. Locals described a moment of panic immediately after the fall, with many rushing to help until rescue teams arrived. The neighborhood remains in shock, with many speaking of "an unimaginable tragedy that froze the entire area."
At the same time, police investigations are focusing on testimonies, video footage from security cameras and digital evidence that may help clarify the case. Information transmitted by Athenian media reports that a handwritten note was also found, which is being examined by the Authorities.
