The Cosmic Law – “The Debt and the Price”: He introduced the idea that opposites (hot-cold, wet-dry) struggle and restore their balance according to an objective, necessary order (like a natural law), not by divine will.

Cosmology: He described the Earth as cylinder which freely floats in the center of the universe without resting on anything (due to balance).

Origin of Life: He was the first to formulate a proto-evolutionary idea: life began in the sea and the first humans were born inside fish.

Anaximenes (c. 585–528 BC) – The Experimental Scientist

Main Innovation: The introduction of a natural change mechanism.

The Beginning – The Air: He maintained the materialistic approach but chose the air as a fundamental substance, because it is invisible, omnipresent and has movement.

The Mechanism – Densification and Dilution: His greatest innovation. He explained how all things are created from air through two simple processes:

Dilution → air becomes fire.

Thickening → air becomes wind, then cloud, then water, then earth and stones.

The Earth: He believed that the Earth was flat like a table. and it rests on the air, just as the soul (breath) holds up the body.

Theology: He identified air with the divine, saying that “just as our soul, which is air, governs us, so too does air govern the universe.”

Their common achievement: All of them, each in their own way, rejected mythological explanations (the intervention of the gods of Olympus) and sought a unique, natural principle that explains the complexity of the world. They thus began a discussion based on logic, where each new theory improves on and replaces the previous one—that is, the very core of the scientific method.

nor Zeus' thunder in the sky.
Water is the beginning, the source, the secret,
"The Earth floats, and the law is natural."

He didn't say "I believe." He said "I think" and "I see."
He dared and broke the bonds and dared to say

For the first time, reason became a sword,
Memory became thought, and myth became speech.

 

II. Anaximander – The Subtraction

And the student came, more daring, who led

the first spark in a large torch

"The water is not enough. The beginning is deep,
is the Infinite, the touch that is not touched,
the timeless shadow.
Neither water, nor fire, nor air,
but something that touches everything, something that never dies."

And he didn't want the Earth to stand on supports,
but free to float, inactive in the void,
like a true thought, without points of support,
only with the balance of the universe Odyssey.

"Life came out of the sea," he said, "and man

“Air,” he says, “is everything. Everywhere and always.

From dilution comes fire, from condensation water,
and from a deeper density, the earth we tread on.
And just as the air in the soul holds the body,
"so the same air rules the universe, warm and sluggish."

He gave law to change, mechanism to genesis,
and made man a sharer of knowledge, not a spectator.
He learned that the truth is hidden in the details,
in the condensation of thought, in the precise experience.
