A Greek woman, raising her children on the island of Samothrace during the summers, noticed that consuming local honey gave her children greater resistance to viruses, while giving them more energy.
Moving on to the observation of honey and after the studies at the University of Thessaly, years later, the daughter of the family grew up and decided to personally deal with the spring Bitter Honey of Samothrace, to introduce this natural Greek treasure to the whole world, which - as it turned out - comes first in antioxidant - antibacterial and antimicrobial activity but also in polyphenols, ranking this health ally in first place internationally, even compared to the most famous and expensive honeys!
Scientific studies – Data unique in the world literature!
The Bittersweet Honey of Samothrace is at the center of scientific research over the past eight years. Research findings confirm that this honey possesses excellent functional properties, particularly exhibiting strong antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. A notable example of its effectiveness is its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. At a concentration of 75%, this honey demonstrated activity almost twice that of the antibiotic Kanamycin. It is noteworthy that even a 6,25% aqueous solution of the honey produced results comparable to those of the antibiotic. Furthermore, its antioxidant capacity ranks among the highest recorded worldwide for honey varieties.
These properties are mainly attributed to honey's high concentration of hydrogen peroxide and its rich content of polyphenols, a significant part of which consists of flavonoids. The presence of abundant flavonoids and polyphenols, combined with strong antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, has been scientifically linked to beneficial effects on human health.
Specifically, research data highlights positive effects on:
-immune system
-respiratory system
-digestive and intestinal health
-cardiovascular functions
-fights esophagitis and gastroesophageal reflux
-oxidative cell stress
-fights free radicals
-skin health
-wound healing
-healing of postoperative wounds
-healing inflammations
-dental and oral health
-fights flu and sore throat
-balances diabetes
-enhances physical activity
-strengthens the nervous system
-enhances libido
Awards
The spring bitter honey of Samothrace has been awarded for its rare and special taste. It has received two stars from the Great Taste Awards committee, in 2023.
Faithful to tradition and the protocol of authenticity
The company QbeeElixir, a small family business in Greece, decided to pioneer: It faithfully follows the protocol of natural and traditional honey cultivation, whereby after the harvest season the bees feed exclusively on their honey and not on other sugars – while the honey itself is produced from the natural flora of the island of Samothrace, without pesticides and other chemicals. The analyses of each harvest prove that it is an organic and biological product.
And here it requires attention, in the Samothraki honey you choose, as not everyone follows the biological, organic and traditional cultivation protocols to which QbeeElixir is committed.
Limited quantity
Samothraki bitter honey is collected for 20 days every spring and is therefore available in limited quantities, with numbered packaging boxes.
