To those who think that Greece does not matter today, let me say that they could not make a bigger mistake. Today, like old Greece, is of the utmost importance for anyone looking to find himself.

A special and emotional divine service was celebrated today at the Church of Saint Nicholas in Distomo, for the great feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The traditional devotion of the day was filled with hope and optimism, as a few dozen students from Distomo Primary School came to the church in coordination with their teachers. The presence of the children, which revives a beautiful school tradition of the first days of September, spread warmth and attracted the sweetest, approving glances of the faithful.

The service was officiated by Father Apostolos Stavropoulos, while in the area in front of the sanctuary of the church, the Cross, adorned with fragrant basil, the plant inextricably linked to the finding of the Cross by Saint Helen, dominated. This modest celebration, which symbolizes sacrifice and spiritual support, closed with the distribution of basil to the faithful by the priest, as well as an antidoros.

The image with the presence of the students clearly demonstrated that, when the new generation embraces the roots of our place, the traditions of Distomo – and nature in general – remain alive. And roots are a strength for the future.
