To those who think that Greece does not matter today, let me say that they could not make a bigger mistake. Today, like old Greece, is of the utmost importance for anyone looking to find himself.

Artificial Intelligence continues…

Η technology in our time, it advances by leaps and bounds, and the average citizen is left stunned by the achievements. The ChatGPT of artificial intelligence is striving to be able to solve all human problems, perhaps even… replace them, as is the case with generics for original drugs!

Ο Demis Hassambis of Deep Mind, son of a Greek Cypriot by origin, was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and leads us to new revolutionary information about Artificial Intelligence. He himself stated that AI will reveal the greatest mysteries of the mind and that the artificial intelligence it can help us understand both machines and ourselves.

This eminent scientist-researcher has been working on artificial intelligence his entire life and is passionate about science and the discovery of knowledge. Google DeepMind's new artificial intelligence model is helping scientists-historians by restoring texts and providing the conceptual context in which they belong.

D. H. believes that the right way to handle artificial intelligence could help scientists and allow them to explore the universe around us. And this could happen in a decade, surpassing the industrial revolution! This is an optimistic development of AI, which gives hope for the treatment of incurable diseases and solutions to the climate crisis, but also raises fears of inequalities, concentration of power or abuse of technology. These fears constitute the “red lines” he set, most notably the prohibition of military applications. D. H. does not hide his anxiety to preserve an ethical framework around artificial intelligence against the pressures of reality, which are permanent and require balance. Ethics, of course, presupposes rational thinking, and as experts argue, AI will not threaten human logic.

It is certain that the next five to ten years will bring enormous upheaval and change. Will human contact and connection be lost? What will happen to all those who will be unemployed in the next five to ten years, due to the modification or elimination of work sectors? And who will reap the benefits of increased productivity and the wealth that will be produced? The few companies that control the game or the companies that AI will create with a profit motive?

It is imperative that governments and organizations address the problems that arise in a timely manner and leave no room for postponements, which are common, judging by the response to the climate crisis.

I am terrified by the estimate that AI could in a few years become as smart as humans or even smarter! Could understanding ourselves through AI, which the Nobel laureate advocates, lead us to its destruction? I want to believe that no human, no matter how progressive, wishes to experience this, in my humble opinion, improbable phenomenon. Should we now believe in… the Second Coming?
