The evolution of Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly the great revolution of our time, and it is proving to be faster than experts predicted. However, this development raises serious concerns about the conditions and limits that are required to avoid unpleasant consequences. What will really be the effects of outsourcing human activities to a technological system and how is the ethics of that system guarded? The simple answer, in order not to stop progress, is that Technology has also in the past become a source of change as well as danger.
Let's not forget, however, the prophetic words of the great teacher Evangelos Papanoutsos: "Civilization, may it be in your hands to solve countless problems... it is, however, at the same time in danger of becoming a source of unhappiness."
The well-known computer programmer and inventor Bill Gates often describes a dystopian and simultaneously heavenly future. In the near future, anyone connected to the Internet will be able to have a personal assistant thanks to TN, which in its own way will facilitate some services, which today are difficult to reach for the citizen. It will have a particular impact on four areas: healthcare, education, productivity, shopping and entertainment. It should also be noted that the Spanish team "Seville" will rely on T.N. for the more complete evaluation of its candidate players.
Especially for health, T.N. will be able to guide the patient on whether or not treatment is needed. And it will be especially beneficial for poor citizens, who often cannot visit a doctor. Regarding education, it will not, of course, replace the teacher but will free him from the bureaucratic aspects of his job so that he can devote himself to his teaching. Besides, T.N. she will help the entrepreneur draw up a business plan, while she can also make suggestions for entertainment, tailored exclusively to the interests of the one who will ask for her help. This is how the citizen will be served, in order to have much more free time at his disposal. T.N. it even comes to the streets to help deal with traffic. Bill Gates further notes that T.N. it can affect the way we interact with our family and friends. And T.N. did not prevail yet. , and its evolution presented its abusive aspect in our country, the so-called deepfake porn, with the obscene abuse of personal images. This latest development testifies that while T.N. is evolving, at the same time the issues of gender violence, rape culture and extortionist porn are increasing daily.
The benefits are therefore many, but the risks involved are not few. The rapidly changing nature of these Technology systems can lead to social discrimination or rights violations. Moreover, we cannot be certain that T.N. "feels" human and that we are not in danger of being led into a post-human future. The concern peaks when one reads the reference of the famous historian Neil Ferguson in his latest book entitled: "Disasters. History Lessons for the West", where he characteristically writes: perhaps Artificial Intelligence will fulfill Elon Reeve Musk's ominous premonition of turning intellectually inferior humanity into a "biological starter system for digital super-intelligence". Moreover, the dismissal and lightning-fast rehiring of Sam Altman, the king of AI, by Open AI is questionable, as this happened because of a dispute between those executives who believe that the development of T.N. should not be done without any control and at all costs, and to those, like Altman, who want to make huge profit jumps without considering the consequences.
David Palfreyman, Director of the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies at New College, Oxford, and Paul Temple, Associate Professor at UCL observe that the changing nature of knowledge and the knowledge economy will determine the shape of higher education systems. They wonder if T.N. could wipe out many jobs from the graduate sector in the coming decades, or could this negative impact mean that Universities will have new business opportunities focused on lifelong learning.
Many scientists have repeatedly expressed their concerns about the threats posed by T.N. and gave their relevant advice. Among them is professor Lilian Mitrou, who observes in her article: T.N. he has no "moral compass" and could not have one. However, the legislator must impose tools and mechanisms for early diagnosis and risk assessment. The Academy of Athens organized a special discussion on "Artificial Intelligence in the field of administration of Justice" with the participation of Academicians Al. Nehamas, Pr. Pavlopoulos and P. Sourlas, under the chairmanship of M. Stathopoulos, then President of the Academy of Athens. During the discussion, extremely interesting issues were raised such as: the relationship between consciousness and artificial intelligence, the role of the system feeder, as well as the asymmetry between man and machine. The rapid development of Technology with Artificial Intelligence should not scare us but neither should it excite us uncontrollably.
