🏀Basketball center, the Distomo Indoor Gymnasium: Home of “Ethnikos” (National League 1) & alternative to “Apollon” (A' ESKASE)!
Distomo is now becoming a basketball epicenter of Boeotia, attracting the interest of the region's sports community after the latest significant developments.
The beginning was made with the official announcement of Ethnikos Livadia, which is being renamed Ethnikos Distomo and officially transferring its headquarters to the Distomo Indoor Gymnasium for its obligations in National League 1 (Second National League)!
This was not the only step: The other team from the capital of the prefecture, Apollon Livadias, which competes in the A' ESKASE, also chose to declare the same Stadium as its alternative home, even though its main home remains in Livadia. Thus, the other day the Municipality of Distomo, Arachova, Antikyra approved Apollon's application and the Indoor Stadium became its 2nd home.
So, one way or another, all roads of Violent basketball now lead to Distomo and its Municipal Indoor Gymnasium.
🏀A stadium-ornament for basketball and society
The simultaneous trust from the two basketball clubs is not accidental. The Distomo Indoor Gymnasium – with its upgrades (to the parquet, technology, stands, etc.) – has proven the integrity of its infrastructure, as since last year it has consistently hosted, following the proposal of Mayor Yiannis Stathas, the great national Wheelchair Basketball Super Cup match, organized by Federation of Greek Wheelchair Basketball Players Associations (OSEKA).
Hosting such an important and sensitive event confirms that the stadium meets the highest standards of accessibility and quality. This sports infrastructure is now being upgraded to a key core for Viotia, rightly turning all the eyes of basketball fans on it for this season.
While, by the way, it recently hosted the Panhellenic Boxing Games, while years ago the National Women's Volleyball Team trained there for days.
🏀Presentation of the two teams
- Ethnikos Distomo (formerly Ethnikos Livadia): It is the great power of the region in the national categories, having a leading role and high aspirations in National League 1. Its move to Distomo and the change of its name mark a new era, aiming to unite fans from all over Viotia in a modern and dynamic environment.
- Apollon Livadia: A team with deep roots in local basketball, competing in the A' division of ESKASE (Basketball Clubs Association of Eastern Central and Evia) and focusing on developing young athletes. Although its main home base remains Livadia, last year it had to play 2-3 crucial championship games away from home (in Aliartos). Wanting to avoid similar difficulties, the administration chose the much better, larger and recently certified Distomo stadium as an alternative this year.
🏀Good luck to both Basketball teams! And to the fans of our wider region by their side!👏
