The action's promotion and publicity project "Creating Integrated Tourism Accessible Maritime Destinations" of the EPANEK 2014-2020, which is implemented by the NSRP Staff Structure of the Ministry of Tourism, was presented by the General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development, Mrs. Olympia Anastasopoulou, on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

Ms. Olympia Anastasopoulou emphasized in her speech: "In our country, important steps are being taken by the State regarding the improvement of the accessibility of tourist infrastructure, while on the other hand, several businessmen realize the importance and the economic benefit it can have for their business the specific category of tourists. For the Ministry of Tourism, the accessibility of Greek destinations is an important pillar of our strategic planning, which it not only encourages, but works systematically in order to enable people with disabilities, to be able to equally enjoy the unique beauties of our country" .

In this direction, the NSRF Staff Structure of the Ministry of Tourism undertook the project of promotion and publicity of the interventions implemented by Municipalities in coastal destinations of the country, through the Action "Creation of Integrated Touristic Accessible Sea Destinations" of the Operational Program "Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation , 2014-2020".

The program, with an initial budget of 15.000.000 euros, was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union and by national resources.

Over 250 beaches throughout Greece, through the "Creation of Integrated Tourist Accessible Sea Destinations" action, are becoming accessible to everyone.

Interventions in the wider area of swimming beaches concern non-permanent infrastructure such as access ramps and corridors on the beach, removable changing rooms, portable sanitary facilities, areas for shade and protection of bathers, as well as parking spaces for the disabled.

The aim is to ensure accessibility to the sea for people with disabilities and people with limited mobility, such as the elderly, pregnant women, people with mobility difficulties, as well as promoting Greece internationally as an accessible maritime tourist destination.

In the context of promotion actions and actions to highlight the country's accessible beaches, the NSPA Staff Structure of the Ministry of Tourism created the website www.accessiblebeaches.gr, through which visitors can browse and select some of the country's accessible beaches. In addition, accounts were created on Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube) as well as videos posted on the project's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC48B37cSFf-21ayzJCYN14Q.

The information campaign that is already being implemented includes digital promotion of accessible maritime destinations to a targeted audience (PWDs and their companions) in Greece, as well as in the largest European countries (Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Cyprus).

The General Secretary of Tourism Policy and Development, Ms. Olympia Anastasopoulou, among others, emphasized "Our main concern and purpose is to promote and highlight destinations that meet specific criteria, so that they are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities and special population groups. Accessibility is an indicator of quality of life, while it is a central element of any responsible and sustainable tourism policy. Adopting a "holistic model" is imperative for human rights and an excellent business opportunity. Above all, we must appreciate that Accessible Tourism does not only benefit people with disabilities or special needs, but all of us."
