Promise to renew the fire brigade
Strengthening the firefighting forces is a subject that is constantly on the agenda of Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis from 2019 until today. In fact, a few days before the fatal fall of the Kanander that cost the lives of the two unfortunate pilots, the Prime Minister had visited the Elefsina base and promised the renewal of the C-215 Kanander fleet.
The unfortunate humor of the prime minister, which was unfortunately expressed at the wrong time, day and place, because "the Western Peloponnese is constantly giving us trouble with the fires", did not go unnoticed. "Doulitsa", practically means human lives, properties, houses, businesses, millions of animal souls given over to the flames, and the nature of our lives. It was really unfortunate that he expressed himself like that, there.

Anyway, for the story, we should mention that this is not the only problem:
Fighting forest fires belongs exclusively to the Fire Service, after the abolition of the Forestry Service in 1998, which is practically and literally a crime.
On the one hand, a city firefighter does not know the paths of a forest area, another city than the one he lives in, so gathering information about water flow, or a road, will cost time at least. On the other hand, how effective this measure is, we are unfortunately seeing it first hand.
The Hellenic Forestry Service was established in 1830 by royal decree. In 1877, forest guarding was assigned to the gendarmerie, and finally, in 1998, with law 2612/98 and 136 votes (with 120 against, and 44 abstentions), its abolition was voted by parliamentarians who took yet another disastrous decision for Greece .
In 1998, after this law was passed, the Forestry Service, Forestry Schools, Student Unions, Forestry Trade Unions submitted their proposals, but the MPs decided that a forest service was unnecessary.
Goodbye in Greece since then!
