Following on from 28-07-2025 announcement, which concerns the arrest of individuals in the area of the port of Rhodes and in order to restore reality, the following is clarified:
The Hellenic Police acted within the framework of their institutional responsibilities to prevent incidents and ensure public order. In this context, the police forces deployed at the scene repeatedly issued recommendations to the gathered individuals to leave, which they ignored.
In fact, during the attempt to remove them, part of the crowd attempted to break through the police barrier, offering strong resistance and using physical violence against the police officers.
At the same time, some of the individuals refused to show identification and comply with further instructions from the police to leave the scene.
The result of the above was that -14- arrests were made, of which -8- were converted into arrests, with the application of the legal procedure and without any unnecessary violence on the part of the police forces, except for that which was absolutely necessary to restrain the individuals.
It is noted that, of those arrested, three are accused of violence against officials and judicial officials and of violating the anti-racism law, three for disobedience and two for violence against officials and judicial officials.
In the context of the subsequent pre-trial proceedings, all the accused pleaded guilty in the presence of a defense attorney, receiving copies of the case file, in accordance with the provisions of criminal procedure.
Furthermore, to a request for medical care, the competent police officers responded positively by informing about the possibility of transfer to a health facility, however, the relevant request was withdrawn. However, the police officers repeated the relevant proposal the next morning, receiving a negative response again, through a defense attorney.
The Hellenic Police always acts within the framework of legality, with absolute respect for the constitutional rights of citizens, as well as its obligations to maintain public order, security and social peace.
