In the last decade, the tragic phenomenon - and not only - of the disappearance of PEOPLE has been observed, with the result that Journalists are also engaged professionally beyond the competent authorities. Case in point, among other incidents, a mountainous Arcadian village where an old man mysteriously disappeared while walking from the village square to a field. And, unfortunately, even though weeks have passed this man has not been found. And after some time, two other people had the same fate. One suffered from dementia. According to information, several villagers as well as the police and the fire brigade searched "desperately", but ultimately to no avail as if the earth "opened up and swallowed them", as is said in such cases. And when some asked after days what happened, if the people were found, the stereotypical and cynical answers were (in succession): "He would have been eaten by jackals", "he would have been eaten by wild boars", "he would have fallen into some ravine", "he would have fell into no well." As for the demented person, the response was cynically scientifically 'documented'(SIC): 'Oh, he's lost it'! In other words, people with dementia are banned! What a civilization! And the matter was almost forgotten. As if no animal was lost, but for some, such as luxury dogs of some high society ladies, animal welfare organizations and even the media would have risen up. Shall we consider it a pity that men are not of such a class as to stir up public opinion to be found when they are lost?
Is this behavior another symptom of our morally and socially seriously ill society? Is it justified today, in the 21st century, in a European country, for a person to "go missing" and for the State not to be able to locate him with all the modern means at its disposal? If it was a common criminal or a terrorist the "universe" would certainly have been mobilized and he would have been found. And satellites would have been used! But, in the case of a common man, the same sensitivity does not exist! We are talking about a HUMAN! Something else is going on. Could it be that the daily bombardment, the daily doping of people by messages of stiff competition, violence, anti-sociality from the media, etc. does it make them morally and socially vulnerable to face such tragic situations – for the loss of a human being is a tragedy – with indifference, apathy and perhaps, for some antisocial individuals, an outlet for the gratification of baser passions? Of course, the sad fact of the entry into the country of "refugees" etc. must also be taken into account. among whom there are also dangerous people.
The question is - which also highlights the level of our civilization and democracy - if it was not about ordinary people, farmers, but about some rich, famous, etc., then would all the mechanisms of finding them have been mobilized? But, in the above cases, of ordinary Greek citizens, did the State settle for a few days of investigations and then the case on file? Is this the value of a person today? Are there too many people? But also practically, was everything that is imposed in such cases done? The area was explored spot by spot, wells, ravines, forests, etc. were searched. with the help of trained dogs to find people? Or did he give rise to a spirit of "devariestism", such a well-known phenomenon of our consumerist, miserable society? In another country, with more sensitive social, humanitarian reflexes, everyone would have been mobilized and people would have been found, because we are talking about PEOPLE, FELLOW HUMANS, and it could be one of us. Isn't it a stigma for our culture, for the decision-makers, but also for everyone? Should we instead of the famous and timeless saying of Diogenes man is sought, raise a banner inscribing, in paraphrase, ZHTEITAI MAN, HUMANITY IS WANTED?
