Politicians, pollsters, journalists try to interpret the phenomenon of the unexpected, even for the ND, triumph.
If a psychic predicted him, he would surely become famous! The same question prevailed in neighboring Turkey with Erdogan in the first elections and the prevailing interpretation was that it is a mixture of Islamic fanaticism and populist nationalism, where everything is suffocatingly controlled by the "father-leader", an interpretation that cannot apply to the Greek data.
I confess that in my long life I have not faced such an original national election! The ruling N.D. and the official opposition SYRIZA chose polarization, hoping for victory. And the N.D. won, and SYRIZA was defeated and...woe to the defeated! The goal of both, not only the victory but also the dissolution of PASOK-KINAL, which, however, resisted.
It is a fact that historically, after 1974, there has never been so much discussion and reflection during the elections for the next elections. This, of course, is due to the simple proportional system applied for the first time in our country, which does not guarantee the victory of the first party. It turns out, of course, that we were not ready in Greece for this system, like other European countries, where it worked successfully. We should, moreover, accept that the Greek citizens voted by majority with the aim of having a government and not narrowly ideologically, as the social problems (austerity, pandemic, threat of war) have exceeded their endurance. They voted for stability, even if it doesn't satisfy their needs, fearing the insecurity of party partnerships, which proved incapable of getting along, bombarding each other pre-election until the final collapse! And at this point we should point out the originality of SYRIZA, which instead of presenting its program as an official opposition, spent itself in the formation of the next elections, with... times against future partners! ... The leader of SYRIZA did not know that "the management is the predictor", as Alcibiades, an Athenian politician and general of the 5th e.g. century. The election result proved that false promises, irresponsibility, populism, audacity and vindictiveness do not appeal to the voters, who reacted punitively. The "first time Analog", where SYRIZA invested, had the same success as the "first time Left"!
PASOK-KINAL persistently refused to enter into the process of cooperation for the second elections, presented its detailed program, dealt with the issue of wiretapping, which personally affected its leader, with impressive meekness, and thus managed to withstand the strong pressures of its opponents . And after the election result, this only socialist party in the country aims to be the reliable force of the Opposition.
The ruling party steadily pursued self-reliance and won it. But I believe that his voters will also be concerned about the problems of violation of democratic institutions, as well as about the "insignificant giving" to the citizens with the parallel "predatory taking" from them.
Let's hope that the next citizens' vote will express the ideology of every citizen and their interest in Democracy in the country that gave birth to it!
I don't know if we will experience such a pre-election period again, but I would like to hope that, just as I experienced the leaps and bounds of Technology for the benefit of the citizens, so today's young people will experience the corresponding return to a society of decent citizens with principles, values and humanitarian ideals.
