For a year now, Booking Hill, our store that has contributed substantially to the upgrade of Daphne Square with respect, aesthetics and consistency, has been waiting for the fulfillment of a promise that was made again and again: the installation of a pergola, just like all the other stores in the square will have.
For a whole year we have been hearing that “the issue will pass through the city council”, that “Booking Hill will also be included in the planning”, that “it is a matter of days”. A year full of promises, delays and postponements.
And yet, today we are informed that the Municipality will place pergolas on all the shops in the square except us.
In fact, the unthinkable was said that "if a pergola is built on Booking Hill, the other shopkeepers will protest because it will be considered a favor."
What favor? Since everyone else will have their own pergola!
Booking Hill pays its fair share for its table seats, on time, without any discount whatsoever. It pays municipal taxes and is always present if asked to contribute as a sponsor to actions as a small thank you to the residents of this city who embraced us from the very beginning!
It's the store that was left behind sheets of metal for months, that still operates with tables and chairs on gravel, when everything else around it has a normal sidewalk and infrastructure, it's the store that CANNOT, while wanting to, protect its customers from weather conditions!!!
It is the space that has culturally and aesthetically highlighted the square, that supports actions, events, books, art, music, children's workshops, that has transformed a part of the city into a space for life and creation.
And yet, in this space, he is not even allowed to build his own pergola, at his own expense, to his own aesthetic.
Our aesthetics are not four umbrellas.
Our aesthetic is respect, inspiration, creation and this is evident in every detail, from the books on our shelves to the art that adorns the walls. As an example, I bring our new store in Kallithea, where the outdoor space is designed with the care and love that characterizes us, even a large mural with Frida Kahlo, crafted by an artist, to beautify the neighborhood.
So imagine what we could have created here, for all the residents and visitors of Daphne, if they had let us do it.
What is happening is not just unfair.
It's a shame for a city that wants to call itself civilized and fair.
We only ask for equality, justice and respect.
What every business in the square is entitled to, Booking Hill is also entitled to.
Nothing less.
Because our city deserves to be beautiful for everyone.
