The continuation of the article of Pan. Carnation
After this brief mention, we all definitely expect the "therefore". The answer and solution is, as I said before, in a single word: POLITICAL WILL! As in our country, as well as in others, there are many and serious internal and international problems, the solution of which is a function of responsible, worthy and effective administration, with a firm and clear will, the same applies to the UN, which is made up of states ( 193 today). So what is needed is the institutional, moral, political, administrative and financial strengthening of the Organization so that it can solve the key problems that plague humanity. Unfortunately, however, the powerful administrators etc. of international affairs they do not want, they do not have the political will to cure the generative causes because they are either subhuman and have a "Dolly" conscience or they are conscious immoralists and adventurers. Because how is it possible to transport them, with air bridges etc. in, from one end of the world to the other, in a few days, thousands of tanks, planes, cannons, etc. types of war, homicidal material, and is it not possible with the same means to transport basic necessities and medicinal material to deal with hunger and disease, but also know-how and technical equipment for the development of countries? It is simply a matter, as we said before, of political will. Why he is absent is now known. Maybe we should remember the story of the humpback? Does the fact that the war tragedy in Ukraine continues with about 300 human casualties, in addition to other tragic consequences, but some countries have collected many billions from the sale of weapons systems, provide some answer? And in Gaza?
So until the Member States of the Organization, their governments, but also their peoples, realize the dramatic situation of the planet Earth, and strive to face the problems that exist, optimism will be the privilege of some powerful or those who depend on the powerful and who use it as an alibi for their inability to do what is right or for disorientation. But, as far as the UN is concerned, we must remember what the Secretary-General of the Organization, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, very aptly said: "The purpose of the UN is to serve its Member States. But, in no case does it replace them." In the 40's the then democratic United Nations succeeded with huge sacrifices in human lives etc. to save humanity from the scourge of fascism. Today 193 united-divided Nations can not face much easier problems? Since I studied International Relations in the USA and in Europe, but also after that, that is, about 40 years, 23 of which serving at the UN, I watched closely many serious problems such as that of terrorism, the Cyprus issue, the Middle East, the environment, the human rights, drugs, crime, etc. and every time I was impressed by the "good intentions", the optimism and the promises of some powerful actors.
But have you seen any progress in all these decades in any of the above areas, apart from the "progress" in terms of the turnover of some profit circles? About 80 favorable resolutions have been adopted by the UN for the Cyprus issue and a whole 50 years have passed. What happened; Have these decisions faded with time, hypocrisy, indifference and cynicism of the powerful? Also, e.g. the violations of the national air and sea space of Greece by Turkish warplanes and ships as well as Turkey's illegal actions in the Cypriot EEZ and the constant threats against the territorial integrity of Greece and Cyprus, do they not constitute acts of terrorism? I'm afraid the phrase of some leader who said "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" is true. Shall we add with hopes and promises? As for our suffering Motherland, we boast that Greece possesses a great capital: spirit, human intelligence. What happened; Emigrated or got caught up in unmeritorious partisan meanderings etc. entanglements and purposes as well as in subculture exercises like "Big Brother" shows, etc.?
Therefore, let us have no illusions especially about national but also about other problems. And let's dare to tell some truths, no matter how bitter they may be, in order to prevent the worst. And the first truth is that if we do not rid ourselves, domestically and internationally, of the syndromes of arrogance, individualism, selfishness, greed and social exclusion, as well as unfair competition, bigotry, division, and worthlessness, and do not dare a humanitarian, democratic, universal transcendence so that the beautiful and universal principles of the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which are also inspired by the life-giving and life-giving universal Greek spirit, become a practice for the whole world, September 11th will simply be the tragic beginning of the global tragedy that has already been set in motion and which with mathematical precision leads to the destruction and self-destruction of the civilized, democratic world or perhaps the entire planet. And if the planet Earth is eventually destroyed, it will not be the ozone hole that is to blame, but the "hole" in human consciousness, especially the powerful. One is the choice: competitive, realistic optimism, unity and resistance.
