The history of Greece reminds us of Arta's Giofiri.
The proud people fought hard to build it,
to gain a safe passage.
But some were tearing it down for the Devil's sake.
or an anonymous corrupt wretch.
Some mocked as if they were melting grapes in a winepress.
Others found a way out in a monastery,
and they prayed to an unknown "Sotiris".
The most conscientious committed harakiri.
And Giofiri remained in the history of Arta-
metaphorically - like "Violence" and "Pompeii's Cape".
