The geopolitical developments in the Middle East in recent times are rapid, interesting and decisive for the future of the entire region and it is estimated by many that it is almost certain that they will eventually change the existing security architecture. On November 11, 2025, a very important visit by Israelis took place in Athens. A visit, from the Israeli side of Lieutenant General Roman Gofman and the Director of the National Security Council Gil Reich, for contacts with their Greek counterparts, which was presented by the Israeli media as an important "message to Turkey".
This visit, according to a report by Anna Barsky in the online edition of the Hebrew-language newspaper "MAARIV", was made on the orders of Prime Minister Netanyahu and involved discussions and meetings on political and regional issues with their Greek counterparts. And the publication points out that, "Behind the restrained wording lies a significant security policy move, which was carried out in a low profile, but was seen as having strategic weight.". This is a visit that is not part of the usual routine of contacts between Jerusalem and Athens. The visit in question reveals an attempt to renew a dialogue that had frozen during the war in Gaza.
Then, on December 22, the trilateral summit of Greece-Cyprus and Israel took place, where the three leaders of the three countries, which make up the famous Tripartite, Mitsotakis, Christodoulides and Netanyahu met in Jerusalem in a "historic" Tripartite Summit according to the Israeli press, the first since September 2023. In fact, authoritative information reveals that the Greece-Israel dialogue focused on regional issues, energy and security issues and especially on the issue of Turkey, as Turkish President Erdogan continues an increasingly hostile policy against Israel, supporting the terrorist (according to the West) organization Hamas, calling it "Turkey's vanguard in the region, accusing Israel of genocide and Netanyahu as a murderer and worse than Hitler." In fact, Israel proposed Greece's participation in the "next day" processes in Gaza, "including initiatives in the field of reconstruction and infrastructure."
Furthermore, the Israeli press constantly reports on the important negotiations between Israel and Greece regarding the Greek ambitious project "Achilles' Shield", i.e. the creation of a multi-level air defense system throughout Greece, worth 3 billion Euros. Thus, the purchase by Greece of advanced Israeli systems, such as the anti-aircraft "David's Sling", "Spider" and "Barak MX", is being seriously considered, something that "Jerusalem considers a vital element for strengthening relations with Athens". Greece has procured and is developing modern Spike NLOS (Non-Line-Of-Sight) missile systems, of Israeli manufacture, to enhance its deterrent capability, placing them in units in Evros and the Aegean islands, with the ability to be launched from Apache helicopters, to deal with targets beyond the line of sight, with long range (up to 32km on land, 50km by air) and precision, changing the situation in the Aegean.
With the Energy Summit in Athens in the first ten days of November, the US decision to make Greece an energy hub was implemented, constituting the entry and transport of American LNG to the created vertical energy axis that will pass vertically through the Balkans and reach Ukraine, with the possibility of expansion to the Baltic countries. It thus proves that the relations and ties between Israel and Greece are entering a new strategic depth, which strengthens Israel's position in the region and directly integrates it into the Western spectrum of interests in the Eastern Mediterranean. An article in the Israeli MAARIV concludes as follows: "Israel is strengthening its position in the region, strengthening its alliance with Greece and Cyprus and positioning itself as a natural partner in regional security and energy axes that affect the face of the Middle East.».
The Hebrew-language edition of the daily newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” reports that Israel and Greece are restarting cooperation steps, as Israel is interested in resuming and accelerating cooperation in the security and economic sectors. Greece is said to be very close to Israel and is considered a friendly country, so the dialogue with it is “close”. In all discussions between Greece and Israel, Turkey was mentioned as “a common enemy of both sides or to be precise, all three, Greece, Cyprus, Israel (the Greek-Israeli axis). The Greek and Israeli ministers, as revealed by the MAARIV report, “also discussed the next day in Gaza and what is going to happen there. Greece, like many countries, wants to be a partner in the reconstruction of Gaza”. According to the same sources, “there was a discussion and exchange of information and it was agreed to hold meetings at the ministerial level”.
The war in Gaza seems to be finally coming to an end. All the bodies of the Israeli hostages who were murdered during their hostage-taking have already been handed over, and this will mark the implementation of the second phase of the “Trump 20-Point Plan”. President Trump already announced on 16/1 the establishment of the Peace Council, chaired by Trump, with the participation of a representative from Turkey and Qatar, along with the establishment of an international stabilization force in Gaza. So Hamas should now start handing over its weapons. If all goes well, then peace will begin to be consolidated in a bloody region and the phase of rebuilding Gaza will begin, where Greece, as reported in the two Israeli newspapers, will have a role, something very important. The second is that in energy developments, the Vertical Energy Axis from Greece to the Balkans, the Israel-Cyprus-Greece-Europe (GSI) power cable interconnection supported by the Israelis and the reactivation of the "East Med" H/W transmission axis, as well as the future IMEC (India Middle East Corridor) trade route, make Greece an energy and useful hub. The very important thing is the "strategic alliance", as it begins to take shape, with the initiative of Israel, creating new geopolitical situations, taking into account the creation of a Rapid Intervention Force, with a Brigade strength of 2.500 men, assisted by two air squadrons and a flotilla of ships from Greece and Israel, with the participation of Cypriot forces, as well as the participation in the peacekeeping force in Gaza, with an Engineering Unit. It is judged It is appropriate not to refer to further analyses and details. However, the future looks promising and Greece at the present time seems to be finally on the “right side of history”. Will it respond to modern geopolitical changes and demands?
