To those who think that Greece does not matter today, let me say that they could not make a bigger mistake. Today, like old Greece, is of the utmost importance for anyone looking to find himself.

WOMEN: "BREAD AND ROSES" – 1908-2012

BREAD AND ROSES

On the occasion of International Women's Day - March 8

The history of the women's movement began in 1910 at the Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen where two German women Luise Zietz and Clara Zetkin, inspired by their American colleagues, proposed declaring a day dedicated to women, thus paying tribute to the first demonstration of women workers in New York on March 8, 1857, and also in the tragic labor accident in the same City, in March, 1908, where 140 immigrant women lost their lives. Based on the above and with a relevant decision of the UN General Assembly in 1977, every year in most of the 193 countries-states of the Organization, March 8th is celebrated as Women's Day.

The term "observed" instead of "celebrated" is, perhaps, preferable to show that with what is happening dramatically and tragically in many parts of the world, and which particularly concern women, the latter would be unacceptable if one takes into account the scary events in some countries, e.g. the removal of the genitals of little girls, the exponential spread of the terrible AIDS disease due to the prejudice that if male carriers meet with virgins they are cured, the punishment by stoning, etc. women who violated some family or legal rule, the slave trade of women for every use, etc. awesome that they prove that in many areas the terms "human rights", "development", "progress" etc. they are an illusion, a fraud.

And some of these phenomena are not limited only to the so-called "developing" countries but also to other ostensibly developed and democratic ones where, of course, women are "stoned" mentally, morally and biologically with the excruciating working hours, indirect blackmail if not give in to "demands", the non-hiring of pregnant women, the undermining of their trade union rights by party members, para-party members, etc. "known-unknown", the continuation of discrimination against them in many areas, the unemployment that has hit red in some countries including ours where the general CRISIS has adverse effects especially on young women and especially on graduates, who instead of living with well-being in their Homeland and to create a family, they are forced to live abroad - as, of course, also the young people - in countries that have reduced the bleeding of brains to a super-science, but at the expense of the Homeland.

Is a crime of social genocide taking place under the indifferent, bemused eyes of the leadership and public opinion? The unfavorable conditions faced by our young people, especially women, are well known, and there is no need to cite statistics reminiscent of firing squads. Referring in particular to our Homeland and reflecting that 60 years ago, more than 600 thousand people, mostly young men and women, sacrificed themselves for the ideals of freedom, peace, democracy, human rights, we ask ourselves: is this maximum sacrifice was made in vain, and now our country is "enslaved" again in a different way, indirect, insidious, mentally, morally and biologically deadly, and even with a debt to those who had enslaved us militarily, and while they plundered the country they still do not pay the their war reparations to Greece even having a female Chancellor? Is this also significant and I wonder why it was not properly evaluated by the responsible-irresponsible bodies. At least the head of the IMF showed some signs of responsibility.

In March 1908, 15 women in New York demonstrated under the slogan "Bread and Roses", the former symbolizing livelihood and the latter general prosperity. Apparently, the leaderships, in the context of rampant competition, materialistic insanity and the arrogance of power, take care to distribute "sponge cake" instead of bread and only the "thorns" from the roses. The latter are reserved for the "happily happy" according to Demosthenes! The conclusions are reasonable! Perhaps, therefore, today and on the occasion of the National Day, the women - but also the men with them - should demonstrate with a crown of thorns on their heads?
