<<The truth is that the Biden Administration’s continued assault on American energy, endless pursuit of an extreme climate agenda, and inflationary policies have caused energy prices to surge. The result has been record-high prices of over $4 per gallon in every state. Instead of taking ownership for how these actions have hurt the American people, President Biden and Congressional Democrats continue to try to shift the blame for skyrocketing gas prices. Initially, they blamed the spike in gas prices on Vladimir Putin, despite much of the increases having occurred long before Russia invaded Ukraine. Then, they focused on American energy producers, though they were continuing to discourage investment in the industry and denying court-ordered sale and lease on domestic lands, accounting for less-than-necessary oil supply.
Now, their latest attempt at deflection is blaming price gouging by gas station owners, even though Administration officials recently testified that there has been no evidence of price gouging actually occurring. In addition to being another attempt at deflection, the Anti-Price Gouging bill Speaker Pelosi put forth last week empowered the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to implement a price setting scheme, which has already proven ineffective. The last time our country tried a similar approach in the 1970s, we saw gas rationing, long lines and even higher prices. We are competing with every other country for limited oil imports; socialist price ceilings will only lead to less oil reaching our shores. Especially mixed with Biden’s hostility toward American energy independence, this is the wrong approach, which is why I voted no. Instead, I urge my colleagues to finally consider the American Energy Independence from Russia Act, which I’ve co-sponsored. It would help restore America’s energy independence by approving the Keystone XL pipeline, removing restrictions on U.S. LNG exports, restarting oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters, and protecting energy and mineral development. Sadly, in the past two months, Democrats have denied consideration of this essential bill that would relieve pain at the pump FIVE times>>.
