The Sub-Directorate for Combating Organized Sports Violence of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime investigated an incident involving threats against referees, which took place after the end of the Greek basketball finals, which were held on 30-05-2025 and 01-06-2025 respectively.
Eight individuals were identified in the case, against whom charges were filed for -as appropriate- threats and violation of the legislation on amateur and professional sports.
In particular, after the end of the above matches, the defendants made a series of calls from unknown numbers against the referees, while at the same time sending threatening and abusive messages to their social media accounts.
As part of an ex officio preliminary investigation conducted to identify the perpetrators, but also following thorough investigations, the full details of the above individuals were identified and their involvement in the incident was certified.
The material collected was submitted to the competent prosecution authority.
