The region of Attica refers to the publications concerning the presenting of the Penteli Forest Office for the extermination of wild hands by the hunting associations.
Initially, according to the competence of the forestry offices, that since August they joined the Ministry of Environment with legislation, while earlier they belonged for several decades, they belonged to the Decentralized Self-Government, under the supervision of the Minister of Interior.
The problem is that there is an excessive number of wild boars in Eastern Attica. The Attica region intervenes and strongly disagrees with the killing of defenseless animals and asks for alternative solutions to this problem. The solutions they propose are their movement and the protection of the mountain ecosystem of Mount Pentelikos.
Finally, regarding the ethics and the context of the hunting activity, the Attica Region recognizes as: "its allies the Greek hunters, the Hunting Associations but also the animal welfare organizations, in terms of the goal of environmental protection and the conservation of the fauna, which is so severely affected by climate change and natural disasters, always within the legal framework».
According to the decision of the Forest Service, the time period will be organized to the extent of trapping wild boars in a gentle way in a residential tissue in cages and releasing them into the environment from where they came from.
Through the announcement of the Municipality of Dionysos he said that: "On the occasion of the recent announcement of the Penteli Forest Service to reduce the overpopulation of wild boars in the wider area of Mount Pentelikos, in collaboration with the Hunting Association of Maroussi, the municipality of Dionysos states unequivocally and categorically that it opposes any action directed against ».
He also added that: "he in no way welcomes the practice and" action "that has been planned for Tuesday, August 31, 2021, which was simply notified to us by the competent forestry office, without the slightest consultation."
And he keeps telling us that: "Our municipality has been affected recently by the natural disaster" Medea "and is in a state of emergency due to the recent catastrophic fire. The wildlife is in danger and all the animals have suffered unbelievably. That is why we call on the forestry department to cancel the planned action and to consider other alternative methods of reducing the wild boar population that do not presuppose the killing of animals. The mayor of Dionysos, Giannis Kalafatelis, in close cooperation with the special advisor of Philosophy, Maria Antonopoulou-Printzou and the competent advisor, Giannis Tsouderos, will exert all possible pressure for the annulment of the decision of the Forest Service and the replacement of the other which will in no way provide for the killing of animals. Also, we inform that the Municipality of Dionysos for the protection of passing drivers from the crossing of wild boars, had issued a relevant announcement in time from November 13, 2019, while the installation of warning signs in various central points-passages of wild boars in the municipality will be completed soon ".
Also for its part, the municipality of Pantelis also issued an announcement emphasizing that: "Hunting has been banned in the municipality of Penteli for many years and there is no intention to restore it."
And it ends as follows: "The municipality of Penteli has no involvement in the taking of the specific decision of the Forest Service, nor was it the recipient, not even in the form of notification. The protection of the mountain ecosystem, the biodiversity, the flora and fauna of Mount Pentelikos is non-negotiable for us ".
