We live closer than ever, but we feel further away. On the streets, on public transport, even around a table, people coexist without actually meeting. Somewhere between the screens, the obligations and the daily pressure, something simple but precious has been lost: meaningful contact.
Alienation doesn't come suddenly. It's a silent process. It begins when we stop really listening, when we respond mechanically, when we rush to move on to the next moment without living the previous one. And so, without realizing it, we build little walls around ourselves.
Along with this distance, something else grows: criticism. People observe, compare, and often judge harshly. Perhaps because it is easier to focus on the other person's mistakes than to understand their journey. Perhaps because behind every criticism lies an insecurity of our own that we have not faced.
Social media reinforces this phenomenon. There, lives seem perfect, moments are chosen, and comparison is inevitable. And so, instead of bringing people closer, they often create greater distance.
And yet, change is not as far away as we think. It starts with small choices. From listening without interrupting. From showing understanding instead of criticism. From remembering that every person carries a story that is not visible at first glance.
Maybe ultimately what is missing is not time, but intention. The intention to see the other with more leniency. To leave room for mistakes, for weaknesses, for truth.
We may not be able to change the world in a day. But we can change the way we stand with people. To choose not to become another voice of criticism, but a presence of understanding.
Because behind every look lies a battle we don't know about. And behind every silence, a need to be heard.
In a world that is moving away, the bravest act is not to speak louder, but to come closer more truly. To see, to feel, to stand.
Maybe ultimately, change starts there: from a person who decides to become a little more human.
