The government is in constant contact with the banks and the servicers with a dual aim of, firstly, taking full advantage of the
possibilities provided by the law for non-performing loans and, secondly, so that banks and servicers can take new initiatives in
order to avoid the threat of a new generation of bad loans,” government spokesperson Yiannis Economou said in reply to
questions at the end of the press briefing on Thursday, adding that “the best that can be done will be done.”
Regarding the ongoing EU Energy Ministers Council meeting on measures to curb high natural gas prices, Economou said
that “obviously and it goes without saying, we are not satisfied with the proposal for a 275-euro cap, we will insist on the
implementation of our proposal. We continue to believe it is absolutely imperative and essential not to waste any more
time.”
Asked how Greece will react if the Turkish drilling ship “Abdul Hamid Khan” moves towards a Greek EEZ area, he said that
the Greek reaction will be in accordance with international law and fully in line with the position that Greece will not tolerate
any violation its sovereignty and its sovereign rights.
