On November 15, the General Secretariat of Diaspora Greeks and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Academy of Athens organized the conference “Greek Diaspora – History, Achievements and Contributions to Greece,”
to honor the contributions of the Greek Diaspora to the homeland. With the participation of academics and scientists from a variety of fields, the conference aimed at answering the questions “How Greek Diaspora views Greece and how Greece perceives the Diaspora,” while highlighting the multifaceted and often unknown contributions of Greeks living abroad.
The presentations were organized along the lines of the Academy’s three disciplines: Physical Sciences, Ethical and Political Sciences, as well as Letters and the Fine Arts. The event’s most emotional moment came when the Secretary General for Diaspora Greeks and Public Diplomacy, John Chrysoulakis, introduced the song ‘ΕΛΛΗΝΙΣΜΟΣ’, composed by Evanthia Reboutsika (music) and Lina Nikolakopoulou (lyrics), a song dedicated to the Greek Diaspora.
