A video that has been circulating on Greek Facebook pages in recent days claims that the US is "signaling" military units to be autonomous for 90 days and that they are thus "upgrading" the prophecy of the "3 days of darkness." Behind the video is a real story. However, the interpretation it gives is not based on any evidence.
The real news: the FORTRESS program America
On September 30, 2026, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth unveiled a new program called FORTRESS America. Its goal is to make large military bases independent of the civilian power grid and global supply chains.
On October 25, Fox News Digital published internal Pentagon documents. According to them, every major military installation in the continental United States should be able to continue its basic operations without outside assistance for at least 90 days: with its own power, water, fuel and communications. The scenario considered is a major conflict, in which an attack could disrupt energy and supply networks within the United States.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell described the plan as “insurance” for the country. He explained that such decisions cannot be made in the midst of a crisis and that America’s geographical distance is no longer considered sufficient protection.
What does it provide in practice?
- Who it concerns: the major bases within the U.S. At a briefing with reporters on October 20, a Pentagon official said that energy needs and costs for about 500 facilities are being assessed. Nothing has been announced about bases abroad.
- How: with independent energy production and reserves of fuel, water and materials. The Army is planning over 20 nuclear microreactors at military facilities.
- When: Based on Presidential Decree 14299, the first such reactor on a military base must be operational by September 30, 2028. The office that will manage the program is still in the formation phase.
What is not true?
There is no 90-day countdown. The number 90 indicates how long a base should last without external power if ever needed. It doesn't mean that something will happen within 90 days from now.
No "signal" was given to the units. This is a plan to shield the infrastructure of the bases, not an operational order to troops nor a state of emergency.
There is no mention of "days of darkness." Neither the Pentagon nor any other official agency has warned of an impending blackout. The “3 days of darkness” is an old religious prophecy that resurfaces on social media every now and then, often with fake “confirmations” from NASA or other agencies. One of these stories even originated from a satirical site and was passed off as real news. No such prediction has ever come true.
Why was it decided now?
The Pentagon links the program to the assessment that in a future war, infrastructure within the US (electrical grid, supply chains) could become a target, either by physical attack or by cyberattacks. The discussion about the energy autonomy of the bases is not new. What changes now is that a specific goal (90 days) and a timetable for achieving it are included.
It is noted that at the same time, other countries, such as Britain, have also strengthened instructions to citizens to be prepared for emergencies, with water and food reserves. Experts see this as preventive measures, not as an indication of a specific disaster coming.
How to control such videos
- If a video talks about "signals," "secret orders," or countdowns, look for the news itself in reputable media outlets.
- Hashtags like #FoxNews do not mean that the content comes from that outlet.
- In the US, official emergency guidance is provided by FEMA and local county Emergency Management agencies. In Florida, our basic hurricane preparedness already covers most power outages.
Conclusion
FORTRESS America is real and worth discussing, because it shows how the American defense thinks today. However, it does not warn of any impending disaster and has nothing to do with prophecies. If you see the video circulating in your groups, it is better to share the real facts.
